I am an Air Force veteran. I served 4 years as a Medical Service Corps officer stationed at Andrews AFB near Washington, DC and Pope AFB, NC attached to Fort Bragg (similar to how JBLM is set up with McChord AFB and Fort Lewis joined together). After my husband got reassigned to Fort Campbell, KY/TN, I could not continue my active duty Air Force service since there was not an AF base close by. I got out and decided to pursue becoming a real estate agent. My husband and I had bought our first home (a condo) with my VA eligibility back in 2009 in NC and it left a sour taste in my mouth. I felt like our ignorance as first time homebuyers was being taken advantage of (esp since we bought during the $8K first time homebuyer credit!). I didn’t feel like the realtor really fought for our benefit. I wanted to be a realtor for my clients and give them confidence that their purchase was done on their terms and not to my benefit as their realtor. Once we moved to Tennessee, I chose to stay home with our 2 kids and go back to school to enhance my bachelor's degree with more focus in Accounting.
Fast forward a few years, a couple different states and an extra kid later and I was ready to re-enter the real estate market but this time capitalizing on my background in accounting, my love for numbers, thirst for knowledge and passion for the veteran community. Lending has been the right fit for me to educate the veteran community on their benefits with real life applications (my husband and I still own VA purchased homes in NC and TN and rent them out ourselves). I also get to analyze and strategize on a daily basis the best course of action for the clients. Buying a home is the largest purchase most adults have in their lifetime and I want to see that it is a well-informed purchase they will not regret!
Other than seeing my clients on closing day, my most favorite part of the job is connecting them to people or services that will benefit them. If your client needs a credit counselor, we have those in house, free of charge; if your client needs a tax professional, I have met several of those; need help with housekeeping, I’ve got a list there too; need an advocate to help figure out a problem, I am always here to listen and offer help where I can. With me as your lender, you will get the family approach with the industry and real life knowledge and applications to be of service. I hope to continue to serve the veteran community in my capacity as a lender and hope you will take a leap with me to witness my professionalism and pride first hand!
